Abstract

After the passage of three years from Iraq's occupation by the U.S. army, the human and material costs of war have become intolerable. Many U.S. politicians have showed their opposition to the continuation of US, presence in Iraq. Also the U.S. and world public opinion urges the immediate withdrawal of US forces from Iraq. It is widely believed that the wrong policies adopted by Bush administration are responsible for continuing unrest and instability in Iraq. This article argues that the failure of the U.S. policies resulted from the lack of deep understanding of Iraq; people, ethnic groups, shia clergy as well as the formulation a viable and clear strategy for occupation period.
