Parliamentary Elections in Bahrain |

The results of parliamentary elections in Bahrain can be discussed from different angles. Holding elections in Persian Gulf countries is very important, due to their particular political and social structures. Despite limitations imposed by the government, Shiite candidates could win many seats in the parliament. This is considered a new instance of Shiites' success in regional democratic trends in the Middle East. Although in the framework of Bahrain's political system, parliament has a limited power, the success of Shiites is very significant. A new wave has begun in the Arab world. The continued pressures on the Shiite community and neglecting them are no longer a viable policy for Arab leaders. The increasing role and status of Shiites in the region does not mean necessarily their consent with the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but it should be welcomed as a fact leading to the solidarity of Shiites in their geographical sphere to vindicate their lost rights.
